What is Alphen’s History

Alpen Optics is an optics company that was started back in 1997. Alpen Optics has been manufacturing binoculars, rifle scopes, and spotting scopes for close to 23 years starting from today. The company is based in Rancho Cucamonga, California, and is known to create affordable products that revival expensive brands out there. Their main customer bases are beginners and recreational hobbyists.

In the community, most of the products they provide are entry-level. Like I mentioned before, they’re great for beginners or seasonal hobbyists. From my experience, they make exceptional optical products that perform well even under the worst weather conditions. If you need a spotting scope that’s not going to break the bank, almost any Alpen product is a great choice.

Alphen’s Product Line

This is important to remember when you’re reading this review or any review on Alphen products. All of Alpen’s spotting scopes are waterproof, weatherproof, and nitrogen-filled. They have anti-dust and debris technology so you’ll have a clear image at all times or any condition.

Plus, most of the Alpen models come with accessories. With the Alpen 20 60×80 spotting scope and Alpen 20 60×60 spotting scope, you get a complimentary padded field carrying case and a portable 12-inch swivel-head tripod. Ultimately, these save you money if you’re on a budget.

Alpen Spotting Scope 20 60×60 Review

Like we mentioned before with Alpen, their products are usually waterproof and weatherproof. The Alpen 20-60×60 is no exception. The zoom magnification has a combination of convenience as well as great optical performance.

What you get with the 20-60 model is a 20-60x magnification which isn’t the highest but great for birding and short distances (100 yards). If you need something a bit more powerful, continue reading on. Also, the Alpen spotting scope provides a decent panoramic viewing at a lower power. With the retractable sunshade, it reduces a lot of glare.

The BAK4 multi-coated optics delivers a clear, beautiful image every time. The rubber armor on the Alpen provides protection and shock resistance. If you were to lightly drop the spotting scope, it would still hold up.  In my honest opinion, the Alpen is great for outdoor use and birding. Plus, it’s budget-friendly.

  • 20-60x zoom magnification with multi-coated optics for a brighter image
  • Nitrogen-filled body design
  • Waterproof and fog-proof
  • Shockproof rubber armor
  • A tabletop tripod is included
  • Nylon carrying case
  • Alpen’s lifetime warranty

  • It’s cost-effective.
  • At the higher power, the spotting scope works amazingly.
  • Backed by Alpen’s lifetime warranty.
  • It is a good scope for 100 yards

  • The tripod isn’t the best, it’s a bit shaky.
  • If you’re looking for a spotting scope for 150 yards or more, do not get this spotting scope.

If you’re looking for a simple, cost-effective spotting scope, get the Alpen 20-60×60. Like I said before, this spotting scope is very entry-level. If you’re a seasoned spotter, you’re going to be very disappointed with this spotting scope. But, for the price, it’s perfect for a beginner.

Alpen Spotting Scope 20 60×80 Review

The Alpen 20-60×80 spotting scope is a step up from the Alpen 20-60×60. The only difference between the two models is the build quality and objective lens. This model has an 80mm objective lens which lets in a lot more light. With more light, you get a better image quality. If you’re looking for a spotting scope with better image quality and room to spend, get the Alpen 20-60×80.

It performs very well in extreme temperatures as well as rain, fog, and snow. This spotting scope is no joke. Plus, it’s very light for its size and makes carrying it a breeze. Don’t be fooled by the size of this spotting scope because it’s pretty lightweight. You may also want to know the Alpen 20-60×80 was awarded Great Buy on Outdoor Life magazine’s gear test issue.

  • Spotting scope with 20-60x magnification
  • 80mm objective lens
  • It has fully multi-coated optics.
  • 45-degree angled eyepiece.
  • Waterproof
  • Shock-resistant rubber armor.
  • Has an adjustable tabletop tripod.
  • Foam-filled aluminum carrying case.

  • It is clear, sharp, and makes identifying peeps easy.
  • It comes with a tripod and case.
  • At a magnification of 40x, this scope is comparable with Swarovski.
  • You can identify birds on a clear day at 60x
  • Lifetime warranty

  • The build quality seems a little cheap.

All in all, the Alpen 20 60×80 waterproof spotting scope is a great buy. In my opinion, it’s a better value for the money than the Alpen 20 60×60 waterproof spotting scope. If you are looking for an entry-level spotting scope and you can spend a bit of money, get this model. This scope will not disappoint.

I want to thank you for reading this review. In conclusion, both models of the Alpen spotting scopes have a 20 through 60 magnification which is perfect for hunting, birding, or range shooting. If you’re a hunter or birder, the Alpen 20 60×80 waterproof spotting scope would be perfect for you. It performs brilliantly under all conditions. Just to reiterate, if you are looking for an entry-level spotting scope and you can spend a bit of money, get the Alpen 20 60×80 waterproof spotting scope. If not, get the Alpen 788 spotting scope.

As for the accessories, I’d personally skip them due to the poor quality. They’re pretty much useless if you need them at the shooting range. Save up some money and buy a quality tripod. If you need some recommendations, go to our tripod article to find the right tripod for you.
